Diane glanced at the clock yet again, seeing only 5 minutes had passed. She let out a deep heavy sigh as she slowly rolled over onto her back, staring up at the dark ceiling above her, darkness lining the walls from the moonlight casting a shadow through the window. It was 2 in the morning, and still her husband had not returned home. She hadn’t heard from him since that morning, right before breakfast. He had mentioned he wouldn’t be home until late, but this was just ridiculous.
She sat up as she tossed the covers from her body, wearing a silk nightgown that hit right above her knees. She walked over to grab her robe, sliding her arms into it and wrapping a knot around her waist. She opened the door to her bedroom as she stepped out into the dark hallway. All three of her sons were sound asleep in their beds as she peeked into each room to check in on them. She then turned to go down the stairs slowly and carefully, knowing every creek the floor made.
